AI phone agent for car dealerships: sales, service and parts calls answered day and night
Lead Friendly’s AI phone agent answers your dealership’s calls 24 hours a day, as your store. It works out from what the caller says whether they want to buy, need service or want a part, checks your real inventory before it describes a car, books the test drive or the service visit on your calendar, and transfers the call to a person when one is needed. It never quotes an out-the-door price, a monthly payment, an APR or a trade value. Every call is transcribed and summarized on the customer’s record in the CRM. The agent comes with Lead Friendly for Dealers, at $349/month.
Claims on this page were read against the code on October 28, 2026. Two independent stores in Kent, WA run their leads and inventory on Lead Friendly. Read the case study.
What it does on a call
Every call answered, as your store
It picks up every call to the number you point at it, nights and weekends included, with your store’s name: “Thanks for calling your dealership, this is Alex. How can I help you today?” The agent’s name and greeting are yours to change.
Sales, service or parts, without a phone menu
The caller says what they want in their own words and the agent sorts it. If it is still unclear, it asks one plain question, and an unclear call is treated as sales. A sales caller is asked about the car, new or used, timing and whether there is a trade. A service caller is asked for year, make and model, the problem or the service, and a day that suits.
Your real inventory, never an invented car
Before it describes a car, it searches the inventory in Lead Friendly by make, model, body style, year, price ceiling, mileage, stock number, the last digits of the VIN, or color. It never makes up a car, a stock number or a VIN. If it cannot find the car a caller names, it does not tell them it is sold; it says it is not on its list and offers to have someone find it.
The visit, booked
It offers two concrete times, books the one the caller picks, and reads it back. Before it books, it checks your Lead Friendly calendar and any Google or Outlook calendar you have connected, and if the slot is taken it offers the nearest open times instead of double-booking. The car the caller wants is saved on their record.
A person when the caller needs one
It transfers the call to the number you set when the caller asks for a person, or when the call is hostile or the finance is complicated. Set transfer hours and it will not try to put a caller through when nobody is there to answer. Add a team member’s mobile number and it texts them before it promises the caller a callback, for a manager, a title question or an exact out-the-door price.
The car they drive now
When a caller mentions their current car, the agent notes it: year, make and model, roughly what they still owe, the monthly payment, and whether it is financed, leased or paid off. That feeds your equity and upgrade follow-up. It never says an equity or trade number out loud.
A sample call, scripted
Written by us and rendered in the platform’s own voice to show how a sales call goes. It is not a recording of a customer’s call. You can play it on the dealer page, and when the live demo line is open you can talk to an agent in your browser at /demo.
- Caller: Hi — do you still have the gray 2019 F-150 XLT? The one at twenty-seven nine?
- Store · AI: We do — stock 4471, it's on the front row. Are you trading anything in?
- Caller: A 2014 Silverado, about 140 on it.
- Store · AI: Bring it — we'll appraise it while you drive the F-150. Saturday at 10 work? I'll text you the address and the stock number.
- Caller: Perfect.
After hours, missed calls and internet leads
After hours
The agent answers at 11 at night the same way it answers at 11 in the morning, and books into the open hours on your calendar. Outside your transfer hours it does not ring an empty showroom: it takes the message, saves it to the customer’s record, and texts your team member if you have set one.
Missed-call text back
A call that ends without a conversation (busy, no answer, voicemail, or the caller hangs up first) gets one text back from your number, and the caller becomes a contact. A call missed during quiet hours is texted when they end, not dropped.
A summary of every answered call
After each answered call, the owner gets an email with the summary, the outcome and the caller’s details. The recording, where the law allows one, and the transcript sit on the contact in the CRM.
Website form leads, called by the agent
Connect a website form to Lead Friendly and the AI agent can call each new lead. Auto-call is on when you create the form connection, and you choose whether it dials with no wait or after a delay you set. Each call passes the same checks as any outbound call: quiet hours in the shopper’s time zone, your do-not-call list, opt-outs and your wallet.
ADF and marketplace leads, when you switch it on
An ADF or marketplace lead becomes a contact, a pipeline card and a task, and by default nobody texts or calls the shopper. Switch on the AI Auto Responder to text or email them, or an automation with an AI call step to have the agent call. Automations start paused, and the first text or call of each run waits for your approval until you set it to send on its own.
What it does not do
- It never quotes an out-the-door price, a monthly payment, an APR or a trade value, and it does not negotiate. A caller who asks is told the real number depends on incentives and their trade and is offered a visit.
- It books into one calendar for the whole store: one appointment per time slot, with sales and service sharing it. There are no separate calendars per salesperson or per service advisor.
- It can book a visit but cannot cancel or move one, and it takes no deposit or card payment. Those are for a person at your store.
- Each agent has one transfer number. One phone number cannot send sales calls to the showroom and service calls to the service desk; if each department has its own number, each number can have its own agent with its own transfer line.
- It does not connect to your DMS. It cannot look up a repair order, a service status or a deal held in your DMS, and nothing from a call is written back to one. The dealer plan’s lead webhook can send new ADF and website form leads to your DMS or CRM as JSON; phone calls are not part of it.
- It knows the cars in your Lead Friendly inventory, from scan-in or a feed. Until your inventory is in, it knows your business from your website and says plainly that it cannot quote stock yet.
- The missed-call text and the owner summary are set up for you, but they wait, paused, until your business has passed identity verification and the compliance step in Settings; the text also needs your business texting registration.
- We do not publish a response time for internet leads, because none has been measured.
- Consent for outbound AI calls and checks against the National Do Not Call Registry are yours. The platform enforces quiet hours, your own do-not-call list and opt-outs, and keeps the consent records you collect.
What it costs
The AI phone agent comes with Lead Friendly for Dealers. That plan is $349/month, or $279/month billed annually ($3,348 a year), plus a one-time $500 setup fee, and includes 1,800 AI voice minutes and 2,500 texts a month, then $0.12 a minute from a prepaid wallet. Unlimited AI agents are included, so a sales agent and a service agent run on the same subscription. A website for your store is included: contact us, tell us what you want, and we build it and show you.
A phone number is $3 a month from your wallet and is not part of any plan. Texts past the allowance are 4¢ each, and texts you receive are 0.5¢ a segment.
If you want only the phone agent and the CRM, without the dealership modules, the general plans start at Starter, $49/month. The free trial is 7 days or 30 AI voice minutes, whichever comes first; no credit card.
Frequently asked
What is an AI phone agent for a car dealership?
An AI voice agent that answers the store’s phone itself, the work a BDC does on the phone. Lead Friendly’s agent answers sales, service and parts calls day and night, searches your real inventory before it describes a car, books the test drive or service visit, saves the caller and the car they want in the CRM, and transfers to a person when one is needed. It never quotes an out-the-door price, a payment, an APR or a trade value.
Does the AI answer service calls as well as sales?
Yes. It works out from what the caller says whether they want to buy, need service or want a part. For service it takes the year, make and model, the problem or the service, and a day that suits, then books the visit on your calendar. It cannot see your service lane or a repair order, because it has no connection to your DMS.
Will the AI quote prices on the phone?
It can tell a caller what a car in your inventory is listed at, because it reads that from your inventory. It never quotes an out-the-door price, a monthly payment, an APR or a trade value, and it never negotiates: it tells the caller the real number depends on incentives and their trade, and books a visit.
Can the AI transfer a call to a salesperson?
Yes, to the transfer number you set on the agent, when the caller asks for a person or the call needs one. Set transfer hours and it only transfers inside them; outside them it takes a message, and if you add a team member’s mobile number it texts that person before it promises a callback. Each agent has one transfer number, so a store that wants sales and service to ring different lines gives each department its own number and agent.
What happens to calls after hours?
The agent answers them. It books into the open hours on your calendar, takes a message for anything it cannot do, and does not try to transfer outside your transfer hours. A call that ends without a conversation gets one text back, held until quiet hours end rather than dropped.
Does it call new internet leads?
Leads from a website form you connect can be called by the agent automatically: auto-call is on when you create the connection, with no wait or a delay you choose. ADF and marketplace leads are not texted or called until you switch on the AI Auto Responder or an automation, and automations start paused. Every call passes quiet hours, your do-not-call list and opt-outs first. We do not publish a response time, because none has been measured.
Does the AI phone agent connect to my DMS?
No. It works from the Lead Friendly inventory and CRM, not your DMS, and nothing from a call is written back to one. The dealer plan includes a lead webhook that sends new ADF and website form leads to your DMS or CRM as JSON, if it accepts one. Phone calls are not sent through it.
Does the agent tell callers it is an AI?
Yes, on every call. The disclosure is added to the agent’s greeting automatically and cannot be switched off, and an agent asked whether it is an AI must say yes. Where state law needs it, the recording notice is part of the same opening.
How much does the AI phone agent cost?
Lead Friendly for Dealers is $349/month, or $279/month billed annually ($3,348 a year), plus a one-time $500 setup fee. The setup fee is billed once, on the first invoice: we load your inventory, wire your feeds and your lead sources, and build and tune the agent with you. The plan includes 1,800 AI voice minutes and 2,500 texts a month, then $0.12 a minute from a prepaid wallet, the full CRM with unlimited seats and AI agents, and all seven dealership modules: deal desk, inventory manager, dealer website metrics, equity mining, data providers, a lead webhook to your DMS and a multi-rooftop rollup. It covers one store per subscription, and dealership modules are never resold through an agency account. A US phone number is $3 a month from your wallet and is not part of any plan. The general plans, Starter at $49/month, Pro at $99/month and Agency at $199/month, are for any business and do not include the dealership modules. A website for your store is included: contact us, tell us what you want, and we build it and show you. Sales tax is not included in plan prices: at checkout it is calculated from your billing address and added to everything on your invoice.
