Can I call this number right now?

Federal TCPA rules allow telephone solicitations only between 8:00am and 9:00pm in the called party’s local time — not yours. Several states are stricter. Paste a number and this checks the current time where that area code sits, then applies the stricter of the federal and state rules.

Nothing is stored. The number is not saved, logged, or added to any list.

States stricter than the federal rule

These are the stricter regimes the checker applies automatically. The table is generated from the same rule set the platform enforces on live outbound calls, so it cannot drift from what we actually do.

State telemarketing laws change and several have no B2B exemption. This is a starting point, not legal advice — confirm the current rule for every state you call.

What this tool does not check

Calling hours are one requirement among several, and being inside the window does not make a call compliant. This checker deliberately does not evaluate consent, the national or internal Do-Not-Call lists, per-contact attempt caps, cooldowns, opt-out handling, or AI-disclosure rules — all of which need information about the contact that a phone number alone cannot tell you.

For the full picture, start with the calling-hours guide and the TCPA compliance checklist.

Frequently asked questions

What are the legal calling hours in the US?
Federal TCPA rules (47 CFR §64.1200) permit telephone solicitations only between 8:00am and 9:00pm in the called party's local time. The window follows the recipient's timezone, not the caller's, so a business in California calling a New York number must stop at 9:00pm Eastern — 6:00pm Pacific.
Which states are stricter than the federal calling window?
18 states have calling rules stricter than the federal 8:00am–9:00pm window, each checked against the statute text: Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. The windows differ by state — Kentucky allows no calls before 10:00am, and Texas none before noon on a Sunday. Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Pennsylvania (from Oct 19, 2026), Rhode Island and Utah bar solicitation on Sundays, and Alabama, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Utah bar it on holidays. Florida has no Sunday ban: its limits are 8:00am–8:00pm and three calls per person per 24 hours. The table on this page lists every window with the statute it comes from. You must apply the strictest rule that applies to each contact based on their location.
How does this tool know the recipient's timezone?
It resolves the area code against the NANPA area-code table to get a state and timezone, then evaluates the current time in that timezone. Because a mobile number keeps its area code after a move, the inferred state is a starting point rather than proof of where someone lives — confirm it on the contact record when it matters.
Does being inside the calling window make a call compliant?
No. Calling hours are one requirement among several. Consent, the national and internal Do-Not-Call lists, attempt caps, opt-out handling, and AI-disclosure rules all still apply. This tool checks the time window only and does not evaluate any of them.
Is the phone number I enter stored?
No. The number is sent in a request body rather than the URL, so it stays out of browser history and referrer headers, and the server performs the check in memory without writing it to a database or a log. There is no signup and no list.

Enforce this automatically instead of checking by hand

Lead Friendly applies these windows at the gate before any call leaves the platform, in each contact’s own timezone, with the stricter state rule layered on top. Texts the business starts stay inside 8:00am–8:00pm in the contact’s timezone, and marketing texts get the stricter state rule too; a reply to a customer who texted in the last hour can go at any hour. Only consumer marketing and lead outbound is gated — inbound answering and operational dispatch run unrestricted.
