Car photo studio for dealers: a white background from a phone photo

Lead Friendly has a vehicle photo studio built into the dealer inventory editor. Shoot the car on your phone, then put one photo, or the whole gallery at once, on a white studio background or on a scene matched to the make and model. Only the background changes: the car is cut out and placed, not redrawn. AI photo work costs $0.05 a photo from your wallet, the Original setting is free, and the original photo is always kept so you can put it back.

Claims on this page were read against the code on October 18, 2026. Two independent stores in Kent, WA run their leads and inventory on Lead Friendly. Read the case study.

What the studio does

White studio background

The car is cut out of the lot photo and set in a studio: a near-white wall, a light neutral-gray floor and a soft shadow under the tires, centered with the wheels on the floor line. Every car on the lot gets the same look.

Scenes matched to the vehicle

Auto picks a scene from the make and model: pickups in the desert, Subarus and all-wheel-drive cars in the snow, SUVs in the mountains, sport badges on a track, luxury cars in a showroom, everyday cars on a city street. Or choose one yourself: Showroom, Luxury, Adventure, Desert, Snow, Urban or Sport. The scene sits behind your exact photo cut-out.

The whole gallery in one pass

Pick a style once and apply it to every photo on the car, so the gallery matches instead of mixing backgrounds. The photos run one after another, each thumbnail updates as it finishes, and you can stop the run partway.

An optional relight

Original leaves the photo as shot and is the default. Subtle and Full relight the photo with a generative AI pass. Unlike Studio and Scene, which only replace the background, a relight works on the car itself, so look at the result before you save.

Your branding on the photos

Optional, and off by default: stamp your logo, dealership name, phone number and web address across the bottom of the enhanced photos. Details come from the branding you already set up for the store.

Undo any of it

The enhanced photo takes the original photo’s place in the gallery, but the original stays in storage. Restore one photo or every enhanced photo on the car, and flip back and forth. Nothing is kept until you save the vehicle, but restoring does not credit the run back.

How it works

  1. Shoot the walkaround on your phone and add the photos to the car, on the scan-in page when you stock it or in the inventory editor later.
  2. Open the car in the inventory editor. Choose a style for one photo, or apply a style to all of them.
  3. Look at the results. A full exterior shot goes on the backdrop; an interior or a close-up gets a light cleanup instead.
  4. Save the vehicle. The saved photos are the ones a Lead Friendly website, if your store has one, and your marketplace feeds use.

What it does not do

  • Backdrops work on full exterior shots. An interior or a close-up is not put on a backdrop; it gets a light cleanup instead.
  • Studio and Scene replace the background only. They do not retouch the car, so dents, scratches and wear in the photo stay in the photo.
  • A scene is a backdrop, not the place the car was photographed. Use the white studio if you want the listing to show only the car.
  • It does not run by itself when a photo is added. You choose the style and run it. Nothing is kept until you save, but the charge is taken when the photo is processed.
  • Running it needs an owner or admin login on a store with the inventory manager.
  • It works on the photos of cars in your Lead Friendly inventory. It is not a separate photo app or a video tool.

What it costs

The photo studio is part of the inventory manager, which comes with Lead Friendly for Dealers. That plan is $349/month, or $279/month billed annually ($3,348 a year), plus a one-time $500 setup fee. The photo work itself is billed per photo from your prepaid wallet: $0.05 for a studio background, a scene, or a Subtle or Full relight. A 30-photo gallery comes to $1.50. The plan does not include a website: a dealer website is a separate done-for-you build, scoped and quoted per project.

The Original setting changes nothing and is free, and so is a photo that fails. An interior or a close-up in a studio or scene run gets a light cleanup instead of a backdrop and is billed like any other photo.

The charge is taken when a photo is processed, not when you save the vehicle. A photo you then discard is still billed, and so is each re-run of a style. Restoring the original does not credit the photo back.

Frequently asked

How do I get a white background on dealer car photos from a phone?

Shoot the car on your phone and run the photos through a studio that cuts the car out and sets it on a studio background. In Lead Friendly that is built into the inventory editor: choose the white studio background for one photo or apply it to the whole gallery, check the result, and save. It costs $0.05 a photo from your wallet, and the original is kept.

Does the photo studio work from a phone?

You shoot on the phone, on the phone-first scan-in page or by adding photos to the car. The cleanup runs on our servers, so nothing is installed on the phone and nothing is processed on it. You start it from the inventory editor, which is a web page you can open in any browser.

Does the AI change the car in the photo?

Not with Studio or Scene. They cut the car out and place it on a new background; the car’s pixels are the cut-out’s, scaled evenly, so a dent in the photo is still a dent in the listing. The optional relight, at Subtle or Full strength, is a generative pass and can change how the car looks, which is why Original is the default and you see the result before you save.

Can I undo a photo I enhanced?

Yes. The original stays in storage when a photo is enhanced. Restore one photo or all of the enhanced photos on the car, and re-run a style when you want a different look. Nothing sticks until you save the vehicle, but every run is billed when it happens, so a discarded photo or a re-run costs the same as the first, and restoring the original does not credit it back.

Can every photo on a car share the same background?

Yes. Choose a style once and apply it to all the photos on the car. The set runs one photo at a time so the gallery matches, and you can stop it partway. Interiors and close-ups get a light cleanup instead of a backdrop.

How much does the vehicle photo studio cost?

$0.05 a photo from your prepaid wallet for a studio background, a scene, or a Subtle or Full relight, so a 30-photo gallery is $1.50. The Original setting is free. The charge is taken when each photo is processed, not when you save, so a re-run is billed again. The inventory manager that holds the studio comes with Lead Friendly for Dealers.

Who can run the photo studio?

An owner or an admin, on a store with the inventory manager. Other staff cannot run it.
