Short answer: Published AI voice agent prices in September 2026 run from $0.02 to $0.39 a minute, but the headline rarely covers the whole call. ThunderPhone's $0.02 includes the models, not the phone line. Carriers and speech APIs sell parts: Plivo $0.03 before the phone line, Telnyx $0.05 before the model and the phone line, Deepgram $0.075 with a model but no phone line. Vapi's $0.05 is a hosting fee, with the model, voice and phone line on top. Retell charges $0.07–$0.31 plus the phone line, and Bland $0.14 with telephony separate. Plans with included minutes work differently: Lead Friendly Starter is $49 a month with 150 AI voice minutes, the phone line, a CRM and calling-rule checks included, then $0.15 a minute. Compare the total at your real monthly volume, not the rate on the banner.

Carriers and speech APIs: the parts, by the minute
Carriers and speech companies sell voice AI by the minute too, as parts for developers: a speech engine to connect to your own model and phone line, or a phone line to connect to your own agent. Their rates are low, and each covers only part of a call.
Lead Friendly buys some of these parts: its phone lines run on Telnyx and its speech recognition on Deepgram, and its plan price includes them.
| Provider | Published price (Sept 2026) | Covered by that price | Billed separately |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plivo Voice AI agents | $0.03/min | Voice models, transcription and orchestration | Telephony (US SIP trunking from $0.0028/min in, $0.0046 out); local numbers $0.50/mo. The pricing page does not say whether the language model is included. |
| Telnyx Voice AI Agents | $0.05/min | Orchestration, speech-to-text and Telnyx-hosted voices | The language model, per token; telephony (US SIP from $0.0032/min in, $0.005 out, plus a $0.002/min platform fee); local numbers $1/mo; premium third-party voices |
| Twilio ConversationRelay | $0.07/min | Speech-to-text and text-to-speech, for the language model you bring | The voice call (US local $0.0085/min in, $0.014 out); local numbers $1.15/mo; the language model, from your own provider |
| Deepgram Voice Agent API | $0.075/min on Standard, pay as you go ($0.068 on Growth, from $4,000 a year); $0.163 on Advanced | Speech-to-text, the language model and text-to-speech; the model you pick sets the tier | The phone line: Deepgram's pricing page lists no telephony or phone numbers |

What 500 AI minutes a month costs
The same month on each price list: 500 minutes of US calls on the cheapest published plan for that volume. Where the rate depends on the model or voice, the figure uses the lowest listed rate, or the published range. Where inbound and outbound calls are priced differently, the phone-line figure is for inbound calls.
| Tool | At 500 minutes a month | Not in that figure |
|---|---|---|
| Lead Friendly (Starter) | $101.50 | Phone numbers (from $3/mo) |
| Retell AI | $35–$155 | The phone line ($7.50 on Retell's US numbers) and $2 a number |
| Vapi | $25 in hosting | Speech-to-text, the model, the voice and the phone line, each at its provider's price |
| Bland (Start) | $70 | Telephony |
| ThunderPhone (Spark) | $10 | The phone line ($6 for inbound calls on one ThunderPhone number; outbound on your own carrier) and add-ons such as premium voices |
| ElevenLabs Agents (Creator) | $40 | The language model and your phone carrier |
| Leadlock (Starter, Gemini or Grok) | $187 | Phone-number fees are not stated |
| Trillet (Studio) | $99 | Telephony ($7 at $0.014/min) |
| Autocalls (Starter) | $110 | Carrier cost, taken from your minutes as extra minutes |
| HighLevel (Starter + AI Employee Unlimited) | $194 | Phone system charges |
| Plivo | $15 | Telephony ($1.40 on SIP trunking), a $0.50 number and, if it is not included, the language model |
| Telnyx | $25 | The language model, telephony ($2.60 with the platform fee) and a $1 number |
| Twilio ConversationRelay | $35 | The language model, the voice call ($4.25) and a $1.15 number |
| Deepgram (Standard) | $37.50 | The phone line, from your own carrier |
On minutes alone, Lead Friendly is not the cheapest here: every developer platform and API in this table can come in lower at 500 minutes, and so can ElevenLabs and Trillet, before the phone line and anything else the rate leaves out. The Lead Friendly figure also pays for the phone line, the CRM, calendar booking, missed-call text-back and the checks that run before an outbound call.
Six ways AI voice agents are priced
- Parts by the minute: Plivo, Telnyx, Twilio ConversationRelay and Deepgram. Low rates for developers who write the agent and connect what the rate leaves out, always the phone line and often the model.
- Pay as you go, by component: Retell and Vapi. Low floors, but you pick and pay for the model, the voice and the phone line, and the total moves with every choice.
- One rate per minute: Bland and ThunderPhone (the model, transcription and voice) and Leadlock (the model and telephony). Easier to budget; check what the single rate leaves out.
- Plans with included minutes: ElevenLabs, Trillet, Autocalls and Lead Friendly. Predictable up to the allowance, then a per-minute rate.
- Per conversation: Ringly charges $1.99 a phone conversation with a $99 monthly minimum (50 conversations), so a long call costs the same as a short one.
- Enterprise contracts: Synthflow publishes no rate; its contracts start at $30,000 a year.
What the headline rate leaves out
- The phone call. Some rates include the carrier minutes and some don't, and the phone number is usually a separate monthly fee.
- The model and the voice. A platform fee, such as Vapi's hosting fee, covers the platform only; the language model, transcription and voice are billed at each provider's rate.
- The plan behind the rate. A low per-minute price can require a monthly plan, a prepaid balance or an annual contract.
- How many calls run at once. Plans often cap concurrent calls, which matters when a campaign or a busy Monday stacks them up.
- Rounding. Telnyx rounds each call up to a whole minute, ThunderPhone bills in quarter-minutes and Plivo bills SIP calls in 6-second steps. The difference is largest on short calls, and most missed-call callbacks are short.
- Everything after the call. A voice platform answers and places calls; the CRM, calendar booking, texting and calling-rule checks it hands off to are separate bills, or separate work.
Which is cheaper for you
If you have developers, already run a CRM, and place thousands of minutes a month, a developer platform such as Retell, Vapi, Bland or ThunderPhone, or parts from Plivo, Telnyx, Twilio or Deepgram, will usually cost less per minute than any bundled plan, Lead Friendly's included. You pay in engineering instead: building the agent, wiring it to your CRM and calendar, and keeping the calling-rule checks current.
A small business without developers is buying more than minutes: a phone number, a CRM, calendar booking, missed-call text-back and checks before any outbound call. Lead Friendly puts those in the plan: Starter is $49 a month with 150 AI voice minutes, Pro $99 with 400, and Agency $199 with 600. Minutes beyond the plan cost $0.15 each on Starter and Pro and $0.12 on Agency, drawn from a prepaid wallet, so a busy month cannot run up an open-ended bill.
How this comparison was made
Every competitor figure comes from that vendor's own website, read on September 26, 2026 (HighLevel's on September 24, 2026): pricing pages, and the vendor's documentation for billing details such as free credit and rounding. Where a vendor publishes no price, the table says so instead of guessing; where a vendor's own pages disagree, the pricing page is used; and figures that appear only in calculators are left out. Lead Friendly's figures come from its pricing page. Rates in this market change often; if one here is out of date, email hello@leadfriendly.com and it will be corrected.
Frequently asked questions
How much does an AI voice agent cost per minute?
In September 2026, published rates run from $0.02 a minute (ThunderPhone's Spark tier, models included, phone line extra) to $0.39 (Leadlock's premium models on its entry plan). Carriers and speech APIs sell parts: Plivo $0.03 before the phone line, Telnyx $0.05 before the model and the phone line, and Deepgram $0.075 with a model but no phone line. Vapi charges $0.05 in hosting before the model, voice and phone line. Retell charges $0.07–$0.31 depending on the model and voice, Bland $0.14 on its no-fee plan, and ElevenLabs $0.08 plus the language model. Check what each rate includes: the phone line and the model are often billed separately.
What is the cheapest AI voice agent per minute?
ThunderPhone's Spark tier, at $0.02 a minute with the models included, is the lowest rate in this comparison; the phone line is extra (its US numbers cost $1 a month plus $0.01 a minute for inbound calls, and outbound calls run on your own carrier). Plivo's $0.03 covers voice models, transcription and orchestration, with telephony extra, and Vapi's $0.05 hosting fee comes before the model, voice and phone line. Retell's floor is $0.07 with its cheapest model and voice. The cheapest total depends on your volume, on who supplies the phone line, and on whether you have developers to build the agent.
Are phone charges included in AI voice agent pricing?
Often not. Retell, Vapi, ElevenLabs and Trillet's white-label plans bill the phone line separately or let you bring your own carrier, and Bland's pricing page says telephony is billed separately. Plivo, Telnyx and Twilio bill the call apart from their AI rates, Deepgram's pricing page lists no telephony, and ThunderPhone's outbound calls run on your own carrier. Leadlock says its rate includes telephony, and Autocalls deducts carrier costs from your plan minutes. Lead Friendly's minutes include the phone line; numbers are from $3 a month.
How much does Lead Friendly cost per minute?
Lead Friendly's plans include minutes: Starter is $49 a month with 150 AI voice minutes, Pro $99 with 400, and Agency $199 with 600. Minutes beyond the plan cost $0.15 each on Starter and Pro and $0.12 on Agency, from a prepaid wallet. The minute includes the phone line, and the plan includes the CRM, calendar booking and calling-rule checks.
Is per-minute or monthly pricing better for a small business?
Monthly plans with included minutes are easier to budget, and they suit a business whose call volume is steady. Pure per-minute pricing suits very low or very spiky volume, and teams with developers who can assemble the model, voice and phone line themselves. Whichever you pick, price your real month, including the phone line and anything the rate leaves out.
