Short answer: Most AI voice agent platforms are not CRMs: Retell, Vapi, Synthflow and Bland place and answer calls, then send the results to a CRM you run separately. A shorter list keeps the agent and the customer record in one system: Lead Friendly (AI voice agent, CRM, calling and calling-rule checks, from $49 a month), Close (its AI agent Chloe places outbound calls from inside the sales CRM, from $9 per user a month billed annually), HighLevel (Voice AI inside its agency CRM, $97 a month plus an AI Employee plan per sub-account), VozerAI (from $199 a month, on your own phone provider) and, for enterprises, Salesforce Agentforce Voice. Built in matters because the call, the contact and the next step share one record, so there is nothing to sync. Prices as published, September 2026.
Why a built-in CRM matters
A voice agent that is not part of your CRM has to hand everything it learns to one that is: who called, what they asked, whether they booked, whether they said stop. That hand-off is a webhook or an integration somebody configures and maintains, and when it breaks it breaks quietly. The call happened; the record never changed.
- One record. The recording, transcript, summary and outcome sit on the contact the agent was talking to, next to every earlier call, text and email.
- No sync to break. There is no field mapping between two systems, so a renamed field or an expired API key cannot silently drop leads.
- Outcomes drive the next step. A missed call can trigger a text, a booked appointment can move a deal to the next stage, and a no-answer can schedule a retry, without a third tool in the middle.
- A stop applies everywhere. A customer who opts out on a call is suppressed for the next text and the next call from the same system.
- One bill, and one place to look when something goes wrong.
The trade-off: if your team already lives in Salesforce or HubSpot with years of data and custom objects, moving CRMs for the sake of a voice agent rarely pays. A voice feature inside the CRM you already have, or an integrated voice platform, is the better fit there.

Voice platforms that connect to your CRM
These four are built for teams that want to design the agent themselves and keep their existing CRM. The call data reaches that CRM through integrations, webhooks or the API, which is a fine trade if someone on your side can build and look after the connection.
| Tool | Built-in CRM | Native telephony | Compliance tooling (as published) | Starting price (Sept 2026) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Retell | No, connects to yours | Yes, telephony built in | Pre-call consent check by webhook; opt-out events after calls | $0.07–$0.31 a minute; $10 free credit | Developers building custom agents |
| Vapi | No | Yes: Vapi numbers, or bring Twilio, Telnyx or Vonage | Configurable calling hours, consent capture, DNC handling and audit logs | $0.05 a minute hosting plus providers at cost; Core $29/mo | Developers who want to choose each model |
| Synthflow | No | Native telephony or SIP trunking (enterprise) | Not described on the pages checked | Enterprise contracts from $30,000 a year | Enterprise contact centers |
| Bland | No | Yes, with an inbound number on the free plan | DNC screening through a Blacklist Alliance integration; flags risky calling patterns | $0.14 a minute (Start); $299/mo plus $0.12 a minute (Build) | High-volume teams building their own agents |
The compliance columns summarize what each vendor publishes about its own product; they are not a legal assessment. Whichever platform dials, the business the calls are made for is responsible for consent and do-not-call compliance.
Questions to ask before you choose
- When a call ends, where do the recording, transcript and outcome go, and does anything have to be configured for that to happen?
- Can the agent read the customer record during the call: earlier calls, open deals, booked appointments?
- When a caller says stop, which list are they added to, and does it block texts too?
- Which calling-hour and consent checks run before an outbound call, and which are left to you?
- What does a minute cost at your real volume once the phone line, the voice and the model are all counted?
- If you leave, how do you get your contacts, recordings and transcripts out?
If you already have a CRM you like
Look inside it first. HubSpot's Customer Agent can answer calls by voice, a feature HubSpot lists as in public beta; the agent needs a Professional or Enterprise subscription and runs on HubSpot Credits. Salesforce customers can add Agentforce Voice. For other CRMs, Retell, Vapi, Synthflow and Bland connect through integrations and webhooks.
If you are choosing a CRM anyway, or your current one is a spreadsheet and an inbox, a platform with the agent built in removes the connection work entirely. That is the case Lead Friendly is built for.
How this comparison was made
Every competitor figure and feature here comes from that vendor's own website, read on September 24, 2026: pricing pages, help-center articles and the vendor's own blog. Where a vendor publishes nothing on a point, the table says so instead of guessing. Lead Friendly's figures are read from its pricing page and its checks from the product itself. If something here is out of date, email hello@leadfriendly.com and it will be corrected.
Frequently asked questions
Which AI voice agents have a built-in CRM?
In September 2026: Lead Friendly, Close (through its AI agent Chloe, outbound only), HighLevel (Voice AI inside its agency CRM), VozerAI, and Salesforce Agentforce Voice for enterprises. HubSpot's Customer Agent can answer calls by voice in public beta. Retell, Vapi, Synthflow and Bland are voice platforms that connect to a separate CRM.
Is Close's AI agent Chloe included in every plan?
Close says every plan includes access to Chloe, and Chloe's calls use the AI credits each plan includes, with more available to buy. In September 2026 Close's help center describes Chloe's voice agents as outbound only, so they do not answer inbound calls.
Does HighLevel's Voice AI cost extra?
Yes. Voice AI comes with the AI Employee plan at $50 a month (100 AI agent minutes) or $97 a month (unlimited) per sub-account, on top of a HighLevel plan from $97 a month, and HighLevel states that phone system charges apply to all calls.
Can Retell or Vapi be used as a CRM?
No. They are platforms for building voice agents. Call data goes to your CRM through their integrations, webhooks or API, so you still need a CRM and someone to maintain the connection.
Do I still need to scrub the national Do Not Call list if my CRM is built in?
Usually, yes. On Lead Friendly, scrubbing uploaded lists against the federal and state registries is the customer's job, confirmed in a DNC attestation; the platform enforces its internal do-not-call and STOP list, calling hours and call caps. Bland screens outbound calls against DNC lists through a Blacklist Alliance integration. Ask each vendor exactly which list it checks.
